THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Innu Nation is governed by a Board of Directors composed of fourteen (14) individuals with equal representation from the two member First Nations:
Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation (SIFN)
Mushuau Innu First Nation (MIFN)
The Board includes:
- The Chief of SIFN
- The Chief of MIFN
- Six (6) Directors from Sheshatshiu: three (3) male and three (3) female, elected by SIFN members
- Six (6) Directors from Natuashish: three (3) male and three (3) female, elected by MIFN members
These Directors represent their respective communities and serve as the principal decision-making body of Innu Nation.
GRAND CHIEF AND DEPUTY GRAND CHIEF
The Board is led by:
- The Grand Chief
- The Deputy Grand Chief
These roles alternate between communities every election cycle to ensure balance and unity.
- No two individuals serving as Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chief during the same term may be from the same community.
- The roles are selected by majority vote among the elected Board members at the first duly called meeting after the election.
